Mount Athos

The Greek peninsula Athos forms the eastern finger of the Chalkidiki. Beside Greek orthodox monasteries and hermitages there is a Russian, a Serbian and a Romanian monastery. For male Greek citizens it is quite easy to visit Agion Oros – the holy mountain. All others need a special permit and are only allowed to stay three days. I had the opportunity to spend a couple of weeks at this very special place – once during Easter.
