Literacy campaigns in Egypt

Although attending school is compulsory, many Egyptians are not able to read and write due to the desperate public education system. The Caritas in Egypt offers classes for adults, where beside literacy health care is also taught: in the rural areas female genital mutilation is widespread among Muslims as well as among Coptic Christians.
